Should I buy Mass Effect 1?

I've always like RPGs in theory but could never get into them. Mass Effect looks like a good game to ease myself in with decent action. Mass Effect 2 looks better but I'm not sure if I'd be missing out on too much of the story. Also people have complained about the bugs in the first game and I can't get onto XBox Live just now to get any patches.

I would definitely recommend playing the first game. The story is very good and to have it summarized in ME2 in two or three sentences would be a shame.Should I buy Mass Effect 1?

if you want a scifi rpg you might as wel play star wars knights of the old republic it plays exactly like mass effect (bioware is rathe rkeen on ecyceling the same game play and game mechanics over and over agan they have been basically selling us repackages of baldurs gate 2 for the last 10 years ) its cheaper with a better story and is a better game to boot
