Mass Effect Has Stopped Working...?

I bought Mass Effect the other day; installed it, downloaded the patch because I came across the infamous "The Configuration Tool Has Stopped Working", got it running, and now I get this lovely little message saying "Mass Effect Has Stopped Working"

I'm more than sure my computer can handle Mass Effect, but here's my specs anyway:

3GB RAM

NVIDIA GeForce 7700 LE

2.5Ghz Dual Core Processor

Vista Home Premium (ugh.)

Someone please help, I really want to play this game.Mass Effect Has Stopped Working...?
The specs are fine, otherwise you'd get a different error message. This is a common problem which is being discussed on the official forum all the time. Make sure you run the game as an administrator by right clicking the Mass Effect executable in the 'binaries' folder. Since you're running it on Vista you might also want to try and run it in Windows XP compatible mode, by right clicking the same executable and going to properties.

You can also turn UAC (user access control) off by going to the Windows control panel, then to account settings and you should be able to find it from there.Mass Effect Has Stopped Working...?
You won't be able to play it with those specs.
